The Supreme Court's Miracle: How Uzodima Without Being A Candidate Of A Party Became A Governor

Brightgizt.blogspot.com

Miracles happens among men, yet many do not believe in miracle as many believe, but which to them can only happen by God. However, the Uzodima's confirmation as the governor of Imo state is a miracle kind of, but can we call this Uzodima's case God's miracle? of course not. And God does not do miracle that justifies errors. So, this can only be tagged the Supreme Court's miracle of normalizing political abnormalities. For a long time to come this huge approval of political wrong by the Supreme court in Nigeria, will undoubtedly inhibit the advancement of democracy in all aspects of its being in the country.

The Abnormalities

Prior to the 2019 elections, the APC had their primaries in Imo state under two factions of the party that conducted separate primaries elections, of which one faction produced Uzodima as the APC governorship candidate, and the other faction produced Uche Nwosu, Rochas Okorocha's son InLaw as the APC's candidate. But, the Imo state high court was soon to nullify the election that produced Nwosu. This led Nwosu to seek another party the AA, to contest for the governorship election, while he still appealed the judgement that nullified his APC ticket. The case went up to the supreme court, and Nwosu was said to be the APC candidate, and for also being the candidate of AA, he was disqualified. That means, both AA and the APC had no candidate for the election. And at this time, there was no way any party could do substitution of candidate, for an already concluded election.

Meanwhile, Uzodima had perfectly perpetrated electoral fraud in about 366 PUs whose results INEC never had, because to INEC elections never took place in those PUs. But Uzodima, carefully used the 2015 elections results sheets to record this fraud elections, in which APC had between 70-80% votes cast in all the 366PUs. Accordingly, INEC could not include these results in its collation, because it never had them in the first place.

Earlier Rejection Of The Abnormalities

So after the election and the PDP's Ihedioha sworn into office, Uzodima went to the tribunal with his fraudulent results, asking that the results be including in INEC collated results. At the tribunal, his plea was rejected and he appealed the case and it was dismissed at the Appeal Court as well. But Uzodima went ahead to the Supreme Court like someone who had been promised a yes judgement. No body took him serious because of the abnormalities that filled his plea as noted earlier. To the Amazement of everyone, the Supreme Court, refused to be supreme and did the unimaginable, as it declared Uzodima validly elected and sacked Ihedioha of the PDP who had earlier been sworn in, by reason of INEC declaration.

Legalizing the Abnormalities

Soon after the Supreme Court's Judgement, the errors upon which the panel of judges had premised their judgement began to surface. The conflicting details in the written judgement of the court with that earlier given in the open court was the first signal. Then other errors surfaced; while Uzodima had complained of being excluded from 366PUs the Supreme added up votes from 388PUs, which then also resulted to an aggregation of votes that was 176,000 votes higher than the supposed votes expected from those PUs. On the basis of these glaring errors, the Supreme Court was approached again by the PDP/Ihedioha, for a review to right the wrong made in the earlier judgement. So today, than correct the error made, the Supreme Court dismissed the call for it to make correction on its earlier Judgement, which made Uzodima the governor of Imo state, even when he was not a candidate in the election and no court has declared him as the candidate of the APC, since the Supreme Court has earlier affirmed Uche Nwosu as the candidate of the APC.

So, Uzodima is undoubtedly the first and only Nigerian to become a governor without being the candidate of any party at election time, and without being declared to have been a candidate of a party, even after the election by any court. This is what the Supreme Court miracle has done in the contemporary Nigerian democracy.
