Breaking Gizts: Okokolo-Agatu In another attack

Some youths from Abugbe community and some hired militia at the early hour of Sunday 30th June 2019 attacked Okokolo village, killed many persons, set houses ablaze when worshipers were in the Church worshiping God in their various places of worships.

This barbaric, unwarranted and inhuman attack occurred even when series of peace meetings have been called. Just yesterday, a day before this today’s attacks, Agbaduma Community and Abugbe community it was gathered, signed peace agreement and promised to remain peaceful and ensure that there would be no further problem among themselves.

Those who were confirmed dead from Okokolo according to the information before me are;

1. Mr Baba Odoje

2. Mr Shaidu Magaji (a retired military man).

3. Mr Oloche Obiabo (Kaddo).

4. Mr Adehi Imaikwu

5. Mr Maji Baba

6. Ngbede Ibrahim (Ejeh-Akpabana son)

7. Bello-Gene-Galih

8. Mr Ekoja (Olundo’s husband)

9. Adams Dogara (Pst. Dogara’s son)

10. Late Francis Idu wife and her two Children (there names not mentioned)

Corpses of some persons are yet to be found.

So many persons, including Mrs Mary Adakonye a Health Worker, sustained bullet wounds and have been rushed to hospitals for medical attention.

When contacted, the Caretaker Chairman Agatu Local Government Council, Hon Usman Alilu S said he has directed the soldiers to the area to deal decisively with the perpetrators of the evil and arrest them. “We are on top of the situation now Ikwulono, thanks for your genuine concern and your tireless efforts”, the Agatu Caretaker Chairman said.

In a similar vein, the State Chairman of PDP Hon John Ngbede in a telephone conversation said he was bittered about the unfortunate situation and has informed the Caretaker Chairman to make sure the soldiers pick everyone involved in the attack. “Even if it is a stone you find there, don’t spare anyone, pick them up and deal with them mercilessly”, the visibly angry State Chairman from his voice, Sir John Ngbede said.

This situation, if not properly handled, is capable of destroying the entire Agatu,  then there maybe no place to call Agatu in the nearest future, God forbid anyway, this is my candid advise to our leaders. I appreciate all those with genuine intentions to bring peace to the area, but those instigating crisis in the area shall know no peace for the rest of their lives.
